Grass Clippings:
I want to start off by saying how hard our staff has been working
through the warmest time of the year so far. I want to share with
you what a typical week entails for our staff. Mowing greens
is a must six to seven times a week and sometimes twice a day.
Poking pencil tine size holes in the greens provides proper air/
gas exchange and improves root development. Edging greens,
topdress greens to reduce thatch and provide firm true putts.
Mowing all lots, pool, tennis and club entrance. Raking bunkers,
mowing tees, collars, walkouts, and fairways. Mowing rough
and miscellaneous weed eating. Fertilizing greens and spraying
greens. These are all routine summer maintenance practices and
our crew is doing a great job.
We are gearing up for the annual Sunny King Classic and course
quality is of high importance. Please keep cart traffic on the
mind when playing. If you are playing with a guest please make
them aware of any wet areas and to make sure carts stay on paths
on Par three holes like 5,9,13,14. Also, please repair ball marks
and rake bunkers.
Important date to remember is July 12th. We will verticut
greens, aerify, and topdress. If Mother Nature cooperates we
will be finished by the end of the day on Tuesday. Time for turf
recovery will be three weeks.
Thanks for the continued success and see you on the course.
As always, thanks for continued success and see you on the course!
Striving for better golf,
Russell Nichols GCS
